Privacy policy

The short version

We ask for your email address so we can send you your report. We use it to send that report and occasional tips about your site. We do not sell it, and you can ask us to delete it at any time by replying to any email or using our contact form.

Who we are

Get Website Audit operates this website. If you need to reach us about anything on this page, use the contact form and we will reply to the same address.

What we collect

• The website address you ask us to audit. We need it to run the audit.
• Your email address, when you ask us to send you the report.
• Your IP address and browser type, recorded with each audit. We use these to stop the service being abused and to fix faults.
• Anything you type into the contact form, so we can answer you.
• The results of the audit itself — the scores, measurements and findings for the site you submitted.

We do not ask for, and do not want, payment details, dates of birth, or any other personal information.

Why we are allowed to hold it

You give us your email address so that we can send you something you asked for. That is the basis on which we hold it. We keep IP addresses because we have a legitimate interest in preventing abuse of a free service and in keeping it working.

How long we keep it

• Audit reports: 12 months, then deleted. Report links stop working at that point.
• Email addresses: until you ask us to remove yours.
• IP addresses and technical logs: 90 days.

Who else sees it

To produce your report we send the website address you submitted — and nothing else about you — to Google's PageSpeed Insights service, which measures how the page loads. Your email address is never sent to Google.

We use an email delivery provider to send your report, which necessarily means they process your email address in order to deliver the message.

Nobody else. We do not sell, rent or share your details.

Cookies

We use one cookie, to keep your session working while an audit runs. We do not use advertising cookies and we do not track you across other websites.

Reports are private, but not secret

Every report has its own long, unguessable web address, and reports are hidden from search engines. Anyone you share that link with can read the report, so treat the link the way you would treat the report itself.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Use the contact form and we will action it within 30 days. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information you can complain to your national data protection regulator; in the UK that is the Information Commissioner's Office.

Auditing a site you do not own

You can point our tool at any public website. We only look at pages that are already publicly available, in the same way any visitor's browser would. If a report exists about a site you own and you would like it removed, ask us and we will remove it.

Changes

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of the page.
